The Tubes – White Punks on Dope
An early Mtv staple, The Tubes were a San Francisco band with a sarcastic, arty approach to rock. Their elaborate stage shows included dancers and comedians, with Martin Mull once hosting a Tubes Talent Hunt. A young Robin Williams tried out.
The Tubes’ eponymous debut album broke in ’75. White Punks on Dope was the signature song of Quay Lewd, the altered ego of lead singer Fee Waybill. This video was a sly parody of the american music from James Brown through the glam rock movement. Be sure to check out his groovy Q-shaped guitar.
Enjoy the memories!™
